Keep calm and carry on – My 3 top tips to avoid pre marathon stress!

Along with many thousands of others, I will be running the London marathon this Sunday, for the first time since 2014. It is a huge event and it is quite normal to be nervous, so here are my top 3 tips to calm your nerves before the big day.

1) Don't panic! Trust in your training. It has got you this far and it will get you to the finish line. Don't try to top up your training by doing a bit more. Just relax.

2) Get organised. Have a plan for the next few days. There is quite a bit more to do in preparation than previous years so make sure you have everything you need for the Expo and the big day to reduce stress. Remember the 4 Ps. Poor Preparation = Poor Performance!

3) Get plenty of sleep. Time to knock the booze on the head if you haven't already and get some early nights to allow your body to fully regenerate for Sunday's event. Good sleep repairs tissue, reduces stress and calms anxiety. Chances are you won't get much the night before so get it in now.

And remember. Don't change anything on the day unless you absolutely have to!

You’ve got this! Good luck!
