What Is Acupuncture?
Western Acupuncture, or Dry Needling is an effective pain relieving treatment for persistent painful problems in the lower limbs. It is different to Chinese Acupuncture as it is based on Western medicine and an evidence based approach to pain relief.
The treatment works by inserting tiny needles into the skin around a painful or tight area to stimulate nerve fibres increasing blood flow, releasing natural pain relieving chemicals and blocking pain signals to the brain.
Insertion of the needles is not painful, but a deep ache or tingling sensation may be felt which can last for some time after the needles are removed. Other mild side effects can include tiredness, discomfort and bruising after the treatment.
